An Interview with WaSP's Education Task Force

2 June 05

I had the pleasure of interviewing with Rob Dickerson of the Web Standards Project (WaSP) Education Task Force about Hiram College's recent conversion to a web-standards-friendly website. You can read that interview and then take a look at all the great things that the Education Task force is doing to bring to light the education of web standards in higher-education institutions. I'm very much looking forward to the efforts they are making in this area and hope that I may be able to help them in any way possible.

Just so you know, at larger institutions one or two people still do most of the work on the core sites ;) Nice job btw. We went standards complaint in the beginning of May along with a formal declaration from our web steering committee in February. Only trick now is getting people to use the tools they have and covert their sites!

Oh I figured as much – at many educational institutions, it doesn’t seem that the web team (if there is one) are staffed as well as they should be. I would love to have a full team to work with me, but money is always a factor, and I guess reality is too. :)

Thanks for the kind comments. I wish you the best of luck on your redesign efforts. It’s going to be a long road for the both of us, I can see. ;)
